Anatomy for otorhinolaryngology :

There are actually 5 tissues that need to be considered in any valid discussion of the tonsils.

1. the palatine tonsil: located between the anterior and posterior tonsillar pillar, referred to in common English as "the tonsils". Multiple sensory innervation: by the vagus nerve, the glossopharyngeal nerve and sensory nerve roots from the upper cervical spine. The tonsils are located just superior and anterior to the superior cervical ganglion, just anterior to the vertebral junction of C1 and C2. "Energetically" (=autonomic nervous system connection) the tonsils are connected with the liver meridian and it’s related structures.

2. the pharyngeal tonsil ("the adenoids"): located in the roof of the mouth just above the junction of soft and hard pallate. Embryologically located in Rathke’s pouch, a tissue that migrates in the first few weeks of gestation upwards and becomes the pituitary gland. Therefore, dysfunction of the adenoids is often responsible for pituitary dysfunction. Vice versa, treatment of this area can often improve pituitary function. The main "energetic" connection is with the kidney meridian and it’s related structures.

3. There are 3 other tonsils: the laryngeal tonsil located close to the vocal chords, the tubal tonsil - located inside the Eustachian tube, and the lingual tonsil which is visible on the upper surface of the tongue "way back".

4. In Germany these 5 lymphatic organs, are referred to as Waldeyer’s Rachenring (=Waldeyer’s ring of the throat, W-Ring). They form a functional unit. There is no food or breath, that does not pass by the W-Ring. All the lymphatics that drain the brain, the sinuses, teeth, eyes, ears, scalp, skull bones and all other tissues above the neck pass through this ring.

5. A complete review of the energetic connections is given in chart #1 below.

The Tonsil-Tooth Connection

Since the health of the W-Ring is interdependent with the health of the teeth and other structures of the head, face and neck area, let us look at those first. Permut et al demonstrated that when ink is injected into the pulp of a tooth it appears within 20 minutes in the tonsils.. . That suggests that infectious agents and toxins originating in the teeth may also affect the tonsils. Furthermore Issels could show that any focus in the head would affect the tonsils in some way, since toxin drainage goes through the W-Ring. A focus is defined as a "deviant localized change in the organism which has beyond it’s local adverse effect also a systemic effect" (definition by "Deutsche Medizinische Arbeitsgemeinschaft fuer Herdforschung"). A complete listing of dental pathology possibly affecting the W-Ring is given in chart # 2 and 3.

The Tonsils:

Roeder found in his anatomical studies, that the tonsils are not only functioning lymphnodes but also excretory organs (page 198). Lymphocytes, microbes, toxins, fatty acids, cholesterol and several other waste products can be found in the excretion products on the surface of the healthy tonsil. Also the thio-ethers from dead teeth are found here. Over the years tonsils can loose their ability to excrete and then they become a toxic focus themselves. As long as patients react with tonsillitis, fever and rather acute symptoms, the tonsils may be healthy. As soon as they stop reacting they may have lost their health and may be a dangerous focus. Healthy tonsils in a grown-up can be easily luxated (="popped out") of the fossa with a spatula. If you can’t do that the tonsils may be dangerous to the client (Kellner, page 201). The final phase of progressive tonsillar degeneration is called " degenerativ-atrophic tonsillitis". The tonsils have become a dangerous focus but are themselves completely asymptomatic. The uvula often looks swollen and jelly-like, the palate is bluish discolorated (page 202). When the tonsils cannot excrete toxins anymore lymphatic toxins have to be shunted into the blood stream to other organs which have now an overflow-valve type of function and become symptomatic.

Cryotherapy (‘kryos’ gr. ‘deep freeze’) is a treatment by means of Regenerative Cryotherapy and has been used for many centuries in different medical treatments depending on the intensity of the deep freeze effect. Deep freeze is used as well as the regenerative and healing treatment (regenerative cryotherapy) as in cryosurgery; where cells, organs and ulcers are put under destructive influence (the so-called destructive necrotic cryotherapy or, cryosurgery).

In this article I have outlined regenerative cryotherapy (regenerative and healing) by discussing the application of the procedure in treating chronic inflammations of the nose, throat and anti-snoring therapy. In 1986, I developed, researched and applied the procedure for regenerative cryotherapy in Russia and set up private practice in Germany from 1995. Many of my patients have shown dramatic health improvements from my treatment. The regenerative cryotherapy adjusts the mutated cells and activates the whole organism by increasing the body’s immunity. This is achieved by means of regenerative renewal. It is important to note that the procedure of regenerative cryotherapy has no known side effects and is highly recommended for both adults and children.

It is important for everyone to maintain and care for their complete/whole self and avoid surgery wherever possible. It is therefore important to care about the throat by applying a therapy which, when needed, does not involve surgery. Latest immunological research has proved that the tonsils play a vital part in the protection of the body. The procedure of regenerative cryotherapy cares about the inflamed and degenerative cells of the tonsils (in the case of chronic tonsillitis). The procedure, therefore, regenerates and activates the cells so that the body’s defence against viruses and bacteria is wholly restored.

Other lymphatic cells such, as the lymphfollicel and lymphgrains, also exist in the throat. They look like little knots and grains and are placed towards the back and sides of the throat (Waldeyers tonsillar ring). Chronic pharyngitis results from the inflammation of these little knots and grains. Regenerative cryotherapy restores the function of these lymphatic follicles and grains so that the immune system adjusts itself to its optimum and healthy potential, fighting against viruses, bacteria and other foreign micro-organisms.

Chronic inflammation in the throat (chronic tonsillitis and pharyngitis) pass by very often without symptoms. Sometimes they can be accompanied with scratching or burning in the throat. During this time the patient has the feeling that something is stuck in their throat which causes coughing. Another symptom is the frequent inflammation of the tonsils.

The therapeutic effect of regenerative cryotherapy is the complete regenerative care of the protective function of the lymphatic cells in the follicles, grains and tonsils. In this way, a full elimination of the inflammation is achieved. Chronic throat inflammations are dangerous for the whole organism because they may lead to complications, such as rheumatism, heart disease, kidney failure/disease, arthritis (disease of the joints), asthmatic illnesses, blood-cell diseases, skin problems, disease of the sexual organs etc. With regenerative cryotherapy all these problems begin to disappear by themselves. The therapeutic effect on the entire system is stimulated and the increased immunity of the cellular system wholly restored.

Regenerative cryotherapy according to Dorochov®  is suitable for chronic inflammation of the constipated nose, Ozaena (stink nose) and Polypose. After the deep freeze treatment the structure of the mucus in the nose is regenerated and heals itself. The breathing system, below the swallowed mucus, therefore regenerates. Asthmatic attacks are reduced, polyps become smaller and even disappear.

It is also possible to cure the patient form snoring and sleep apnoea with the help of regenerative cryotherapy. Snoring is an unpleasant noise which, whilst in a deep sleep, can be extremely dangerous. There is a direct connection between high blood pressure, myocardiac attack (heart), cell-disease and psycho-neurotic disturbances. In most cases the muscles of the palate are treated with deep freeze. A local narcotic spray is used in the throat to avoid vomiting. Regenerative procedures begin on the muscle cells of the palate. The strength of the muscle palate cells is restored and palate tension shortens. In most cases, the reason for snoring is the slackening of the muscles which is caused by other diseases that effect the palate. These ; chronic tonsillitis, chronic pharyngitis, chronic sniffles, colds and flue. If one does not treat chronic inflammations and swallowed mucus, one starts snoring and after some time, the dangerous apnoea syndrome—frequent stops of breathing in the night—will set in. In some cases it was confirmed that after the application of cryotherapy in the nose and throat the strength and elasticity of the palate was slowly gained back. Naturally this depends on the individual nature of the person which is assessed during my treatment.

I was granted a patent from the Russian Committee for Patents and Inventions for my method and procedure for treating snoring with regenerative cryotherapy. The procedure does not require any preparation and can be applied to a conscious patient who is sitting upright. A local narcotic spray is used before treatment to reduce vomiting stress. The procedure takes half an hour, after which time the patient is back to their ‘normal’ eating/drinking habits. I was also granted a Patent for my cryo-equipment for this use of cryotherapy. Deep freeze is produced by circulating nitrogen, which does not have any direct contact with the nose, throat or mouth. Some patients feel an unpleasant cold feeling for a few seconds, whilst others feel nothing. After the procedure the cell system regenerates and restores new and healthy cells. This process lasts for four to six weeks. After this period, the patient should go for a check-up. If the cells are not completely renewed another treatment is required to complete the regenerative process.

Many people (especially children) suffer from different stresses of the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, joints, skin, inner organism bronchial asthma and other diseases. They are not aware that their inner stresses are caused by a chronic inflammation in the throat and nose. These inflammations pass by very often without any symptoms. Normal cell functioning is restored and increased stability of the entire immune system is wholly established by means of regenerative cryotherapy.

By means of the regenerative cryotherapy system, diseases of the skin can be cured such as: psoriasis, atopic and allergic dermatitis, erythema, eczema, warts, papilloma and kondylomathe.

I strongly believe that if everyone (especially children) underwent prophylactic treatment of the lymphoid tissue of the tonsils, pharynx (Waldeyers tonsillar ring) and nasal mucosa using the method of regenerative cryotherapy according to Dorochov®  the following positive effects would be observed.

- improvement of the protective functions of the entire organism

- correct and healthy stimulation of the immune system and T cells

We conclude therefore that the general risk of catching systemic, rheumatoid, infectious allergic and oncological diseases, immune deficiency states, snoring and sleep apnoea would be distinctly reduced.

Read that could say a few of my patients in Germany...

The regenerative cryotherapy of Dorochov guides a new direction in modern medicine. Regenerative Medicine helps the sick mutated organism to regenerate itself by renewing cell function to a complete restored ‘whole’.

“My aim is to introduce regenerative cryotherapy into all aspects of medicine so that we can all benefit from the rich life we were granted at birth.”

Regenerative cryotherapy is a type of cold treatment.

Classification: Cryotherapy can be classified on the basis of its clinical effect and as a function of the temperature parameters which affect the impact of the cold factor on tissue.

CRYOTHERAPY: REGENERATIVE

DESTRUCTIVE

CRYOSURGERY

Regenerative cryotherapy is cold treatment administered at temperatures near the cold-resistance threshold of the tissue. This kind of cryotherapy stimulates the regenerative processes in the undercooled tissue.

Destructive cryotherapy is cold treatment administered at temperatures below the cold-resistance threshold of the tissue. This kind of cryotherapy leads to necrosis of the undercooled tissue.

Cryosurgery (exstirpative cryotherapy) consists of the cyclic application of cold treatment at temperatures below the cold-resistance threshold of the tissue. It leads to necrosis or removal of the undercooled tissue.

REGENERATIVE CRYOTHERAPY consists of the brief administration of dosed cold treatment to tissues and organs at temperatures close to the cold-resistance threshold of the tissue. The aim of this type of cryotherapy is to bring about regeneration and functional reactivation at the treatment site.

Regenerative cryotherapy causes a reaction in the organism which is linked to local tissue irritation and manifests itself in an elimination of the pathogenic factors, regeneration of tissue, and restoration of functional competence.

During the administration of regenerative cryotherapy, the same pathophysiological changes take place in the tissues that were described by I. V. Davydovskij (1969) in connection with inflammatory processes:

Stage 1: Reactions caused by the activity of vasoactive mediators

Stage 2: Hyperemia

Stage 3: Exudation and edema

Stage 4: Leukocytic infiltration

Stage 5: Regeneration.

Monitoring of the cooling parameters in the tissues is a very important point during regenerative cryotherapy since the therapeutic effect is directly linked to these parameters.

The Method of Regenerative Cryotherapy

to Treat Chronic Tonsillitis and Chronic Pharyngitis

Chronic tonsillitis and chronic pharyngitis are chronic inflammatory edematous processes affecting the lymphoid tissues of the tonsils and Waldeyer’s throat ring.

The administration of cryotherapy to this lymphoid tissue simultaneously activates the regenerative process and a cyclic reaction lasting for 4 to 6 weeks.

When the regenerative cryotherapy method is used to treat chronic tonsillitis or chronic pharyngitis, the following therapeutic mechanisms of action can be observed:

1. heightened non-specific reactivity of the organism

2. attenuation and subsequent eradication of infectious processes

3. distinct hyposensitization of the organism to bacterial and histoid antigens

4. germination of young neurites without the degenerative changes usually observed in chronic inflammatory processes, restoration of the normal trophism of the lymphoid tissue, and enhancement of cell repair and regeneration

5. restoration of the protective function of lymphoid tissue within the framework of local and systemic immune reactions.

The Method of Regenerative Cryotherapy

to Treat Chronic Rhinitis of Vasomotor or Atrophic Origin

The administration of cryotherapy to the nasal mucosa activates the regenerative processes and triggers a cyclic reaction lasting for 4 to 6 weeks.

When regenerative cryotherapy is used to treat chronic rhinitis, the following therapeutic mechanisms of action can be observed:

1. restoration of normal trophism via germination of new nerve fibers and the corresponding receptors in the nasal mucosa, one of the important receptor areas in the body

2. a noticeable hyposensitization effect

3. a stimulating effect on the organism

4. restoration of nasal breathing

5. The improvement of afferent innervation in the nasal mucosa stimulates the trigeminal nerve, thus restoring the normal function of the higher autonomic nervous centers.

The Method of Regenerative Cryotherapy

to Treat Snoring and Sleep Apnoea

Patent of the Russian Federation (Rospatent), Moscow, Russia 1994

Snoring is a sound caused by vibration in the lower part of the throat. It occurs when the soft palate and uvula have lost their muscle tone and become inelastic.

The sleep apnoea syndrome manifests itself as a brief respiratory standstill caused by the irritation of reflexogenic areas; this irritation is attributable to a loss of muscle tone in the soft palate and uvula allowing these structures to slip down into the lower part of the throat.

The reflexogenic areas of the throat constitute a nerve plexus, the plexus pharyngeus consisting of the sensory and motor fibers of the glossopharyngeal nerve, the vagus nerve and the sympathetic nerve. The glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves play an important role in the pathogenetic mechanism responsible for the sleep apnoea syndrome since they innervate the middle and lower part of the pharyngeal space. The vagus nerve is also responsible for the innervation of the larynx and its muscular apparatus. When the soft palate and the uvula slip down into the pharyngeal space, they are recognized as foreign bodies and thus cause an irritation of the reflexogenic areas in this space. Protective reflexes are activated, the glottis seizes up and respiration stops. Owing to the resulting oxygen deficit, however, the vocal cords open again and respiration resumes.

Possible causes of the loss of muscle tone in the soft palate and uvula include special anatomic features in certain individuals. However, it is more commonly caused by inflammatory dermopathic processes in the tonsils, pharynx and nasal cavity.

As the name suggests, the application of regenerative cryotherapy to the muscles of the soft palate and uvula activates regenerative processes and improves the contractibility of the muscle fibers. The normal muscle tone of the soft palate and uvula is restored: these anatomic structures are again held in place from above and vibration stops. The most important result, however, is that the patient stops snoring and the reflexogenic areas of the pharynx are no longer irritated. In short, the patient has been cured of the sleep apnoea syndrome.

REGENERATIVE CRYOTHERAPY is an effective treatment method via which a stable therapeutic effect can be achieved.

Regenerative cryotherapy can be employed to:

1. stop snoring and sleep apnoea

2. restore nasal breathing

3. reinstate the protective function of the lymphoid tissue in the tonsils and Waldeyer’s throat ring

4. stimulate immune processes

5. eradicate chronic foci of infection in the tonsils, pharynx and nose, thereby preventing complications or sequelae of these infections. These include systemic and rheumatoid diseases of the heart (i.e. endo-, myo- and pericarditis), the blood vessels (e.g. vasculitis), the joints (e.g. polyarthritis), the kidneys (e.g. glomerulonephritis), the internal and external sex organs (e.g. disturbances of potency), the nervous system (e.g. chorea) and the skin (e.g. scleroderma, psoriasis, pustulosis and lupus erythematosus), infectious allergic diseases (e.g. bronchial asthma, atopic and allergic dermatitis, etc.) and immunodeficiency disorders.

If everyone (but especially children) would undergo prophylactic treatment of the lymphoid tissue of the tonsils, pharynx and nasal mucosa using the method of regenerative cryotherapy, we would observe the following positive effects (especially in children):

- improvement of the protective functions of the organism

- stimulation of the immune system.

We can assume, moreover, that the general risk of contracting systemic, rheumatoid, infectious allergic and oncological diseases – or immune deficiency states – would be distinctly reduced.

Monitoring of the cooling parameters is an important point to be observed during regenerative cryotherapy since achievement of the desired therapeutic effect depends directly on these parameters. On the basis of my extensive experience with cryotherapy, I have designed and patented (German Patent Office in Munich 1993) a mobile cryotherapy unit suitable for use in medical practices. With the aid of this unit, it is possible to keep tissue cooling under control, especially in the ears, nose and throat regions.

It is evident from the above discussion that cryotherapy offers a viable alternative to radical surgery and the removal of tissues and organs (e.g. tonsils, kidneys, etc.) it usually involves. For this reason, we should publicize the benefits of cryotherapy and add it to the arsenal of methods we use in our medical practices daily.

With its regenerative effects, cryotherapy opens up vistas for an alternative direction in medicine, namely regenerative medicine.
