RoboCV LLC announces the accomplishment of a project at Samsung’s Russian factory in Kaluga region (SERK) with successful robotization of 6 electric warehouse vehicles. The vehicles were outfitted with the X-MOTION intellectual autopilot system, developed by RoboCV. Thanks to this system, 6 warehouse vehicles are now able to function and move around the warehouse and the factory fully autonomously in driverless mode, and they are fully integrated into the intra-logistics processes of the factory. The project was implemented as part of a consistent strategic move of the factory management towards intra-logistics costs optimization and labor productivity enhancement. The performance of the RoboCV X-MOTION autopilot system has fully satisfied the customer. Now, a full-scale robotization project is being planned for the rest of Samsung’s warehouse vehicles at Kaluga factory. X-MOTION is an “artificial intelligence” system for warehouse vehicles. The system is targeted at replacing the human driver, and acts much like a driver. The system “sees” the environment with its vision sensors, mathematically builds a model of it, and makes decisions on the preferred route and obstacle avoidance maneuvers based on this model. X-MOTION is plugged directly into the guidance system of the vehicle (the steering, acceleration and braking systems), and lets the vehicle move around fully autonomously. Sergey Zhukov , Executive Director of the Space Technologies and Communications Cluster of Skolkovo Foundation : “We hope that the joint project of Samsung and RoboCV is the first symbol of the ‘down-to-earth’ commercialization of the results, which were obtained by the teams that emerged from our space industry. Not many people know that the key team members of the project met during a collaborative work on a project of the first private lunar rover in the framework of Google Lunar X PRIZE contest. Know-how in the area of technical vision and creation of autonomous robots turned successful on the Earth as a result.” Sergey Maltsev, RoboCV CEO: “An accomplished project for such a serious customer is a quite important milestone for us. This case has reflected the way how advanced robotics technology is being converted into a commercial product, which generates real economic value. We are set to proceed with our effective collaboration with Samsung in this area, and will apply the maximum of effort to further perfect our technology and products.” Dmitry Smirnov , Commercial Director, RoboCV : “Samsung was insisting on high efficiency of its investments into robotization of warehouse vehicles, with a return period of no more than 2 years. Our solution fully meets these criteria, as we believe that the only way to make robotic products widespread is to cut the price for the end user. This is our main focus in product development.” About RoboCV LLC RoboCV is a Russian developer of a range of vehicle autopilot products aimed at full driving automation of several types of vehicles, including warehouse vehicles, open pit mining trucks and vehicles in areas with restricted traffic. About the Skolkovo Foundation The Skolkovo Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in September 2010 by the Russian government with an objective to accelerate transformation of Russia from a resource-intensive to an innovation-based economy. To achieve this objective the Foundation is overseeing the creation of the Skolkovo Innovation Center composed of companies and startups, developing innovative technologies (currently numbering over 950), a Technopark, the Skolkovo Institute of Technology (Skoltech), a new graduate research University established in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Skolkovo city, located near Moscow. Together these entities will establish a vibrant ecosystem of technology innovation and entrepreneurship. 28 world’s most successful corporations, including Boeing, Cisco Systems, EADS, GE, Johnson & Johnson, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Siemens, Nokia, Samsung etc. have already recognized the opportunity Skolkovo presents having signed R&D partnership agreements with the Foundation.
