The Workshop, dedicated to modern networking technologies with the participation of Russian universities on “SDN Technologies in scientific and educational environment”, took place at the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics at Moscow State University on May, 30. Applied Research Center for Computer Networks became the initiator of the meeting. Professional academic community discussed a number of industrial issues concerning future network technologies and rapidly developing today’s new approach to the architecture of computer networks – Software-Defined Networks. The participants of the working Conference became more than 40 specialists from 13 Russian Universities: Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, Orenburg State University, State Institute of Information Technologies and Telecommunications, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Belgorod National Research State University, Moscow State University of technology “STANKIN”, Institute of Informatics Problems, Institute of Precision Mechanics and Computer Engineering, Southern Federal University, Volgograd State University. The experience exchange of conducting Research and Development on prospective network technologies was held as the part of the workshop. It was decided to form the Consortium of Universities to improve the research efficiency and achieve significant results in the area of computer networks, as well as in Research and Development of Software-Defined Networks. “One of the main objectives of the Consortium on Research and Development of new network technologies is to unite the research teams from Russian Universities, — announced R&D Director of ARCCN Ruslan Smelyansky. — Throughout the world the development of large and successful research projects occurs due to cooperation between universities and laboratories. So there is a successfully operating GENI project in the USA – a virtual laboratory for experiments in the area of computer networks uniting more than 200 universities. There was also created FED4FIRE project in Europe — a research project in the area of computer networks and the Internet of the new generation, which units the universities of Belgium, Britain, France, Germany, Australia, Spain, Greece, Korea. AKARI project on searching for the innovative Internet architecture works in Japan and units the leading technical universities of the country”. The event showed, that there is a group of specialist (from 7 regions of the Russian Federation) and the basis for the research and impart knowledge on SDN Technologies in Russia. The formation of the Consortium is a logical decision in a project to develop the most advanced modern technology in the area of computer networks. There was already reached an agreement on partnership and close collaboration with GENI project
